How does the tip-based tour work?
The Takayama Free Walking Tour has no fixed price. At the end of the tour, you may choose to tip your guide based on your experience and budget. Tipping is entirely optional, and the amount is up to you.
Does the tour include food tastings?
No. Food tastings and drinks are not included. Any food, drinks, or other purchases are at your own expense.
Can children join the tour?
Yes. Children of all ages are welcome with a parent or guardian who supervises them throughout the tour. When booking, count only participants aged 16 and over.
Can large groups join the free tour?
Each group may include up to five participants aged 16 and over. Larger groups require a private tour. Travel agencies and organized tour groups must book privately, regardless of their size.
Does the tour run in the rain?
Yes. Tours normally go ahead in the rain, so please bring an umbrella or rain jacket and dress for the weather. If Takayama Localized needs to cancel your tour, we will notify you at the email address used for your booking.
What should I do if I’m late or can’t find the guide?
Please arrive at least five minutes before the scheduled start time. The meeting point is in front of RESTING AREA Daimasa. Check the meeting-point information on this page before setting out.
Guides will wait no more than 10 minutes after the scheduled start time. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, your booking will be treated as a no-show.
Do not rely on WhatsApp: guides may be unable to reply during the tour, and we do not contact late arrivals.
How do I cancel or change my booking?
Select “Manage Booking” in your confirmation or day-before reminder email to cancel or reschedule. Alternatively, contact info@takayamalocalized.com. To change your participant count, cancel and rebook with the correct number.
Please cancel as soon as possible if you can no longer join, so your place can be offered to another guest. There are no cancellation or no-show fees for free tours.
